Indiana · Payroll registration
Indiana payroll tax registration, done for you.
Two agencies, two systems, and one reason to be careful about what you open. Indiana is the state that issues bills for estimated taxes on an account left open rather than merely asking for a return, so registering for a tax type you do not need is not a harmless tidy-up.

State fee. $0 to register with either agency. Our flat fee covers preparing and filing each registration.
When you have to register
Employers paying wages to Indiana residents register with the Department of Revenue for income tax withholding. Unemployment registration with Workforce Development is separate, and the SUTA termination form later carries its own 30 day clock from the decision to cease operations.
What comes next
Not applicable to a registration. Worth knowing now because it changes what you should open: Indiana states that if a trust tax account is not closed on INTIME and no BC-100 is filed, the Department of Revenue may continue to send bills for estimated taxes.
How long it takes
Indiana does not publish a turnaround we could confirm from either agency. Commercial guides quote specific timings for both and we have not been able to verify them, so we do not repeat them.
What we do
We work out exactly which accounts you need, prepare and submit each registration, and hand you the account numbers, rates, and deposit schedules your payroll system asks for. One flat price per account, and any state fee passed through at cost.
What makes Indiana harder than average
- Register only for what you need. Indiana issues bills for estimated taxes on accounts left open, not just reminders. A tax type opened speculatively becomes a liability that has to be actively closed rather than quietly abandoned.
- Two portals with no relationship. INTIME is Revenue. Uplink Employer Self Service is Workforce Development. Neither one starts the other and the credentials are separate.
- Trust tax framing raises the stakes. Indiana treats sales tax and withholding as money collected on the state's behalf, which is why it escalates faster than states that treat a dormant account as an administrative loose end.
- The exit clock starts at the decision, not the last payroll. State Form 46800 for unemployment is due within 30 days of the final decision to cease operations, which can be running while you are still trading.
Questions and answers
Which Indiana form registers withholding?
Form BT-1, the Business Tax Application, filed through INTIME under New Tax Registration and then Register a new business tax account.
Does that cover unemployment?
No. Unemployment insurance is the Department of Workforce Development, registered separately in Uplink Employer Self Service.
Should I register for extra tax types while I am there?
No. Indiana may send bills for estimated taxes on an account that is left open, so an unnecessary registration creates a real liability rather than an unused login.
How long does registration take?
Indiana does not publish a turnaround we could verify with either agency. Commercial guides quote specific timings and we have not confirmed them, so we will not state them as fact.
What do you need from me to start?
The legal name and FEIN, entity type, Indiana work locations, first payroll date, and which tax types you genuinely need.
